A film truly dedicated to the DJ culture, "Give It Up For The DJ," provides a very personal view to who disc jockeys are and exactly what their role has been throughout the course of hip-hop history. The documentary tracks the course of the DJ from the block party era, where the mixmaster was always the center of attention sometimes aided by a MC, to present day, where many rappers perform without the assistance of a DJ at all.

Last week, DJ Kid Capri rightly hosted the premiere event for "Give It Up For The DJ" at Mist in Harlem, New York. Capri, who was prominently featured throughout the film as a true cornerstone of DJ culture, is credited with transcending the idea of what it exactly means to be a superstar DJ. The legendary Clark Kent, who rocked with B.I.G., kicks off the convo in the doc; also joining the expansive discussion are the iconic DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kool DJ Red Alert and whole lineup of international party rockers from across the globe, who show a glimpse of what the scene looks like on the other side of the world.

"Give It Up For The DJ" also gives deep insight into the importance of the DJ as an integral part of a multitude of hit records throughout the years and how the role of a DJ in popular culture has expanded incredibly.
