Bad Boy alumni Shyne, who now goes by Moses Michael Levi Barrow, has been endorsed by Diddy for the Belize House of Representative candidacy.
“I’m so proud of my brother @shyne_bz and the journey he is on,” Diddy captioned on an Instagram post of the “Bonnie & Clyde” rapper. “He is running for the House of Representatives and needs your support.”
Barrow, who is the son of Belize Prime Minister Dean Barrow, was nominated by the United Democratic Party to stand as a candidate for the Belize House of Representatives for the constituency of Mesopotamia in Belize City. In 2008, his father made history by becoming the first Black prime minister of Belize.
Shyne is expected to succeed his uncle Honorable Michael Finnegan, who announced he wouldn’t be seeking re-election when his term was up back in 2017. Hon. Finnegan previously expressed his wish for Barrow to be his replacement.
Shyne currently serves as the country’s Ambassador of Music.
The “Bad Boyz” rapper was sentenced to prison in 2001 after being convicted of assault from an incident that occurred in December of 1999 while partying with Diddy and Jennifer Lopez at Club New York in Manhattan. Shyne’s self-titled debut album was released the following year, which peaked on the Billboard 200 chart at No. 5.
While incarcerated, Burrow converted to Judaism and after completing his 10-year stint in prison, he was deported from the United States in 2009 to his birth country of Belize and made the leap into politics.
Despite the distance, for 2016’s “Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour,” REVOLT met up with Shyne in Belize for a special live performance of “Bad Boyz” and special message for concertgoers.
