With JAY-Z and Roc Nation advising the selection of major NFL events, the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show will be one to remember. According to the football league, this year’s halftime show will not feature one superstar but five, and they are all representing the genres of hip hop and R&B.
On Feb. 13, 2022, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar will collectively take the field at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif, becoming the first time the artists will perform together. Additionally, the event will mark the Super Bowl’s return to Los Angeles after three decades.
“The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career,” Dre said in a statement. “I’m grateful to JAY-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment.”
“Artists like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were at the forefront of the West Coast hip-hop revolution, so to be able to bring them back to L.A., where it all began alongside Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar will prove to be an epic, unforgettable celebration of the impact hip hop has today,” added Todd Kaplan, vice president of marketing at Pepsi.
In addition to the halftime show, Pepsi and NFL will reportedly launch a magnet high school in South Los Angeles named Regional School #1. It will based on the USC Iovine and Young Academy founded by Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre.
The news of next year’s Super Bowl halftime performers, who collectively earned 43 Grammys and 19 No. Billboard albums, comes months after The Weeknd took the stage at Super Bowl LV. Per JAY-Z, “this is history in the making.”
