Anthony Johnson’s wife is struggling to cover his funeral expenses and says fans and friends have exhibited “fake love” in the wake of his tragic death. Speaking with TMZ on Wednesday (Sept. 22) in a tear-jerking interview, Lexis Jones Mason said she is not able to pay for the homegoing service that Johnson deserves and is asking for help.
“Y’all say y’all love him, but y’all not helping. Where’s the love?” Mason, who launched a Go Fund Me campaign to help cover the funeral costs, said.
“We’re gonna have a service. I’m gonna do everything I know he would’ve done for me,” she added. “It’s just hurtful. I would not be asking if I had it.”
Mason is trying to raise $20,000 to bury her husband in Rose Hills, a cemetery in California. However, she said if she can’t raise the money, she will cremate him. At the time of the interview, Mason said the Go Fund Me campaign had raised less than $8,000. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, the page has accumulated upwards of $9,000 and counting.
On her Instagram account, Mason thanked fans and friends who have donated. Along with donations, the Go Fund Me page was also flooded with well wishes from fans who shared their appreciation for the late comedian. “I honestly appreciated you and all the laughter you brought into our home,” one person wrote.
As reported by REVOLT, Johnson passed away earlier this month after being found “lifeless” in a Los Angeles store. The 55-year-old was best known for his role in Friday as well as several other films, such as House Party, The Players Club, B*A*P*S and I Got The Hook-Up.
So far, Johnson’s cause of death has not been revealed. See Mason’s interview with TMZ below and donate to her Go Fund Me here.
