The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating an act of vandalism involving Pop Smoke’s gravesite, TMZ reports.

Authorities believe the incident occurred between 2:30 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 10) and 2:00 p.m Saturday (Sept. 11). TMZ is reporting that there were no cameras that recorded the crime, but the estimated damage totals $500. NYPD reportedly responded to a call Saturday (Sept. 11) afternoon regarding a break-in at the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.

TMZ states an employee notified security of the damage to Pop Smoke’s grave on Saturday. The marble plaque, bearing Pop’s real name Bashar Jackson, was cracked and almost completely broken. The outlet is also reporting that an eyewitness noticed drag marks along the ground and it appeared the vandals may have broken into Pop’s tomb. A black concrete slab, possibly used to separate caskets, was also taken out of his gravesite.

Along the ground, near the mausoleum, authorities found several pieces of debris, joints, and flowers scattered around. Staff at the Green-Wood Cemetery has since replaced Pop’s plaque with a blank slab, and placed caution tape around the area, TMZ reports.

As REVOLT previously reported, in May, a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detective revealed that a 15-year-old pulled the trigger — over a diamond Rolex — in the fatal shooting of Pop Smoke. The teenager and a group of four other suspects were arrested last year. Pop, who was just 20 years old at the time, was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on February 19.

Pop’s family members have not made a public announcement regarding the crime. REVOLT has reached out to the NYPD, who has notified us there have been no arrests thus far. In addition, we have contacted the Green-Wood Cemetery for a comment on the matter and will update this article with any responses we receive.
