As fans wait for the release of Donda, another listening event is being teased. On Tuesday (Aug. 17), a fan who works at the Soldier Field in Chicago shared his belief that a forthcoming show listed as a “major concert event” on a staffing app will be helmed by the city’s own Kanye West. The event, he claims, is scheduled to take place on Aug. 26.
“I work for security at Soldier Field, and we recently had an event added under ‘major concert event,’ and I’m very confident that it’s for Kanye’s listening party,” he tweeted. “If it’s true, then Kanye will be performing in Chicago at Soldier Field on the 26th.”
Fake Shore Drive’s Andrew Barber also teased Kanye’s next event, tweeting, “Donda listening party in Chicago?” alongside eye emojis.
If the event comes to fruition, it will be the first Donda listening party in Ye’s hometown but the third major event that will see the rapper preview new songs in front of his supporters. The first two parties were held two weeks apart in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with fans anticipating the album’s release in the moments after each event ended. Unfortunately, the album has yet to drop.
At one point, a tweet from collaborator KayCyy claimed that Kanye — who stayed in the Atlanta venue to complete the project — was “moving to another stadium” to finish it up. KayCyy later revealed that his page was hacked.
“You hackers gotta stop,” he wrote. “4 of my tweets were hacks … I will not be on Twitter anymore for the rest of the week.”
It remains to be seen whether West will actually host his third listening party, but if he does, he is likely to benefit in some way. According to Billboard, he set an Apple Music record after 5.4 million viewers tuned into the livestream for his second event. He also reportedly made $7 million off merchandise sales.
