Nas is enjoying yet another chart hit with his latest album, King’s Disease II. According to Billboard, the New York native’s 13th studio effort debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart on Monday (Aug. 16), moving over 56,000 total album-equivalent units within its first week.
Of that sum; 35,000 were comprised of SEA units — totaling 47.44 million on-demand streams; 19,000 were made up of album sales; and 1,000 were comprised of TEA units. Billboard notes that the hefty sales log pulls King’s Disease II ahead of its Grammy-winning predecessor, 2020’s King’s Disease, which sold over 47,000 copies and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 last year.
King’s Disease II is Nas’ 15th album to make into the chart’s Top 10 and his 12th effort to make it into the Top 5. The 15-track offering also marks his highest-charting album since Life Is Good, which debuted at No. 1 upon its release in 2012, selling around 149,000 copies within its first week. Across his illustrious career, Nas has had six albums peak at No. 1 on the chart, including his 1996 sophomore effort It Was Written, I Am…, Hip Hop Is Dead, Life Is Good, Untitled and The Firm’s The Album.
King’s Disease II was released to warm reception on Aug. 6, hosting features from Eminem, EPMD, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, YG, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Charlie Wilson and Blxst and co-executive production from Hit-Boy.
Over the weekend, Nas returned to curate an “R&B Brunch” playlist exclusively for TIDAL, which featured songs by The Gap Band, Fela Kuti, Lion Babe, Frank Ocean, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Outkast, Alicia Keys, Roy Ayers and, of course, himself. As reported by REVOLT, the playlist was inspired by Nas and Blxst’s King’s Disease II track, “Brunch on Sundays.”
