After putting on an amazing and entertaining Verzuz at Madison Square Garden, old and new fans have contributed to a rise in streams for The LOX and Dipset. Billboard and MRC Data broke down the streaming numbers in the days following the event, and according to the data, the Verzuz was a win for both groups.
In the week ending Aug. 5, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and Styles P garnered 3.4 million US on-demand streams — a 215 percent increase from the week prior, according to MRC Data. About 1.4 million of the on-demand streams were acquired on Aug. 4, the day after the event and their highest-streaming day within the week.
Per Billboard, this particular week is now The LOX’s fifth-best streaming week to date following the weeks ending September 3, 2020, December 22, 2016, September 10, 2020, and April 15, 2021. Their three best streaming weeks came after album drops; the fourth came in the wake of DMX’s death when fans grew interest in his collaborations with the Yonkers emcees.
As for Dipset, streams for the Harlem group consisting of Jim Jones, Cam’ron, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey increased by 117 percent, totaling up to 2 million on-demand streams in the week ending Aug. 5. Like The LOX, their most successful day was on Aug. 4, the day they saw 580,000 streams.
Following the recent surge, the emcees secured their fourth-best streaming week thus far. The group hasn’t seen a significant increase in streams since December 2018 when they had 2.7 million streams. Their best streaming week ever was the week ending November 29, 2019 following the release of their Diplomatic Ties project.
While streaming numbers deem The LOX and Dipset both victors in the recent Verzuz, a majority of the fans believed that The LOX took home the win, with Jadakiss earning the title of MVP.
