Charlie Robinson, an actor most known for playing the role of a court clerk named Mac on NBC’s sitcom “Night Court” has passed away.
Earlier today (July 12), a rep for Robinson confirmed the news to The Wrap. Robinson passed away at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after suffering from “cardiac arrest with multi-system organ failure due to septic shock” and a type of glandular cancer called metastatic adenocarcinoma. He was 75 at the time of his passing. Robinson is survived by his wife Dolorita, his children Charlie, Byron, Luca, Christian, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his daughters-in-law.
Robinson’s career was one that stretched nearly 50 years, as he started acting in big films, TV shows, and plays all the way back in the early 1970s. Besides “Night Court,” he appeared in movies like Set It Off, The Black Gestapo, and many more.
One fellow actor who reflected on the death of Robinson was Wendell Pierce, who acted alongside him in James Anthony Tyler’s 2021 play, Some Old Black Man. In a tweet he posted earlier today, Pierce reflected on some time they spent together.
“It only took 27 days and we created a lifetime,” wrote the “The Wire” actor. “Charlie Robinson and I quarantined together during this pandemic to create a play and in that short time we created a lifetime of friendship. A special bond, like the father and son, we portrayed in the play. We had a mission.”
He continued: “We had a mission to find a way to create our art while the world was shut down. By chance, we created a friendship in 27 days that only happens with a shared vision. In that short time he became mentor to me as I questioned if my best days had passed. By example he showed hope.” See Pierce’s tweets about Robinson below.
