Tucker Carlson might be thought of as a Donald Trump supporter, but one outlet says he told multiple people something different.
According to a report Politico published today (July 1), Carlson told some individuals that he voted for Kanye West during the 2020 Presidential Election, which saw Kanye get 60,000 votes. Sources tell the site that the two have a friendly relationship and that Carlson had even hung out with Kanye in Wyoming before an interview they were supposed to do fizzled out.
“It’s his way of saying that he’s not just another Trumpette at Fox News like Sean Hannity,” said one source on the matter, referring to Carlson’s fellow Fox personality.
If Carlson, who declined to issue a response for Politico’s story, did say he was voting for Kanye, and he wasn’t joking, that would mean he was one of the 60,000 U.S. citizens who gave Yeezy their vote. It also wouldn’t be the most shocking thing in the world, as Carlson has given Kanye props for speaking out against abortion in the past. They are both pro-life.
Politico says they were unable to confirm whether Carlson voted for Kanye, but they were able to confirm that there were eight write-in votes in the Florida district in which Carlson is registered to vote. Kanye didn’t submit the proper paperwork to get officially listed on ballots in the state, but there’s a chance he wrote in Kanye’s name.
For the 2020 Presidential Election, Kanye ran as an independent, as part of a political group he calls the Birthday Party. In early November 2020, he conceded that he’d lost the election, but he used a tweet to hint that he wanted to run again in 2024. Speaking with Forbes months before that, Kanye reversed course on his previous Trump support and spoke on the notion of running for president in 2024.
“Let’s see if the appointing is at 2020 or if it’s 2024—because God appoints the president,” ‘Ye said. “If I win in 2020 then it was God’s appointment. If I win in 2024 then that was God’s appointment.”
If Kanye runs again, maybe he’ll get Carlson’s vote.
