On Wednesday (June 30), the news of Bill Cosby’s overturned sexual assault conviction and ensuing release from prison took many by surprise, prompting an abundance of social media reactions. Some individuals denounced the legal system’s decision to let Cosby go, while the comedian’s supporters expressed their happiness. 50 Cent was part of the latter group.
The Queens entrepreneur took to Twitter and Instagram to react to the ruling in Cosby’s case. “My son Bill beat that case. These hoes be tripping,” he said before promoting his ABC show, “For Life.”
50 has always spoken out against the condemnation of Black men in the spotlight.
In 2019, when it was announced that Oprah Winfrey was shooting a #MeToo documentary that included commentary about Russell Simmons, the emcee called Winfrey out for failing to support Black men.
“I don’t understand why Oprah is going after Black men,” he wrote. “No Harvey Weinstein, No [Jeffrey] Epstein, just Michael Jackson and Russell Simmons this … is sad.” He then followed up with another post that showed Cosby, R. Kelly, Weinstein, Epstein, Kevin Spacey and former president Donald Trump. Under the images of Cosby and the singer was the word “JAIL.” Placed under the pictures of the white men was the word “WALK.”
“You think Oprah don’t notice how this s hit is playing out?” the “Power” star wrote at the time.
50’s reaction to the overturning of Cosby’s sexual assault conviction comes after “The Cosby Show” star Phylicia Rashad shared her thoughts on the news.
“FINALLY!!!!” she tweeted. “A terrible wrong is being righted — a miscarriage of justice is corrected!”
As REVOLT previously reported, Cosby’s 2018 conviction was overturned after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court determined that an agreement with a previous prosecutor would prevent him from being charged. The conviction was for the sexual assault of Andrea Constand, who claimed she was drugged and molested by Cosby in 2004 at his Pennsylvania home.
