The incomparable Mary J. Blige’s My Life documentary debuted Friday (June 25) on Amazon Prime and to commemorate its release, fans on Twitter threw a watch party.
The Queen of Hip Hop Soul joined in on the digital celebration of her iconic second album, adding additional commentary on the social media app as fans chimed in with their hot takes.
Blkcreatives, a digital network that aims to uplift black content creators, hosted the event alongside Amazon’s Prime Video account on Twitter. Fans were encouraged to use the hashtag #MyLifeWatchParty and join the conversation at 8 p.m.
“The moment has arrived,” Mary tweeted. “My documentary, Mary J. Biges’s My Life, full of truth, hope, and love is starting now. #MyLifeWatchParty.”
As viewers clicked play from home, the memes, hashtags, jokes and digital revelry began. The director of the documentary, Vanessa Roth, even created a Twitter account to join in on the fun. “#MyLifeWatchParty Life Goals: direct MJB my life documentary, get a Twitter so I can celebrate with y’all tonight!” she tweeted.

“That My Life album will always and forever be undefeated and pure gold! That album got me through some tough times during my teenage life I’ll have to jam that tomorrow #MyLifeWatchParty,” another tweeter commented.
Twitter’s global director of culture and community God-is Rivera wrote, “Hearing @maryjblige and the producers describe crying together while recording My Life while the rain poured down outside in NYC has me in my feelings. #MyLifeWatchParty.”
Mary’s insight throughout the night added to the excitement. The “Real Love” singer shared her thoughts on Twitter several times, thanking Diddy, Andre Harrell and her fans for contributing to the album.
“Love to Andre Harrell. Thank you for being a mentor and a friend. You will always be in my heart,” she tweeted. “I love you Diddy. Thank you for everything!! One of my favorite parts of the documentary is the fans!!! I love my fans!!”
“Words can not express how grateful I am to everyone involved in this [film]. To all my fans, thank you for encouraging me to share my music and my life with you over the years,” she added. “Love always, Mary #MyLifeWatchParty.”
