Saweetie, who is of Filipino descent, is putting together some educational workshops to lift up members of the Asian American community. The emcee has collaborated with Gen. G — the leading esports company connecting the U.S. to Asia — to host Icy Baby Workshops that are set to take place next week.
Each day of the workshops will see Saweetie learn skills and cover one of the following topics: gaming, cooking, music, lifestyle, and fashion and beauty. Her goal is to empower AAPI entrepreneurs and raise awareness for Icy Baby Foundation, her nonprofit that works toward inspiring “Black, brown and other underserved youth through financial literacy, entrepreneurship and technology training.”
“Now is the time to come together and support each other as we fight to end Asian Hate,” Saweetie said in a press release. “I am excited to partner with Gen. G to connect with our fans in new and inventive ways to have real conversations about making positive changes in our community.”
Saweetie’s Gen. G workshops kick off on Monday, June 14 alongside the launch of her new Twitch channel. In the first lesson, she, Twitch chef Triciaisabirdy and DJ Bella Fiasco will be discussing all things food. On June 16, she’ll talk about fashion and beauty; gaming will be the topic of her workshop on June 17.
“So many Asian Americans are in the forefront of gaming, music and fashion but rarely get the spotlight that they deserve. It’s great to partner with an advocate and entrepreneur like Saweetie,” said Gina Chung Lee, VP of Brand for Gen. G. “As an AAPI woman growing up, there wasn’t always mainstream representation and celebration. It’s very meaningful to be able to shape and empower the next generation of leaders across all digital platforms and create cool content while doing so.”
