ASAP Rocky will serve as the CEO of Klarna today (June 1) after announcing a new partnership with the Swedish financial services company. On Tuesday, Klarna revealed that Rocky has become a shareholder in the company and will take over the role of CEO for one day.
“ASAP Rocky defies categorization; a musician, actor, philanthropist, an opinion leader in style and fundamentally someone who understands what the public wants from so many vantage points,” Sebastian Siemiatkowski, Klarna co-founder and CEO, said in a press statement.
“He challenges the status quo each day. As the consumer experience in retail now demands discovery, curation and sustainability, we at Klarna have a lot to learn from him,” he added. “Besides, after 16 years since founding Klarna, I think I deserve a day off.”
During his day-long term as CEO, Rocky will curate exclusive content within the Klarna app focused on fashion, specifically upcycling and vintage clothing. “Rocky will renounce the global fashion hibernation that has dominated this past year and invite everyone to rediscover the joy of getting dressed,” the statement reads.
In partnering with the company, Rocky also agreed to invest in Klarna’s GiveOne sustainability initiative. The “L$D” rapper pledged 1 percent of his investment to the Miti Alliance in Kenya, which is working to slow the impact of climate change due to deforestation.
“Klarna is a company that looks ahead and challenges the status quo, which makes partnering with them so appealing to me,” Rocky said in the release. “I’m excited to begin working with Klarna in a number of ways, including jointly creating a space for people to rediscover style as we emerge from a global fashion hibernation.”
Rocky has long been hailed as a fashion icon and recently revealed he worked on new clothing pieces while road tripping across the U.S. last year with his girlfriend, Rihanna. News of his Klarna investment also follows exciting updates about the rapper’s highly anticipated new album, All Smiles.
