Promising Brooklyn rapper Supa Gates has died nearly seven weeks after she was shot while sitting in the passenger seat of a car in his hometown.

According to the New York Daily News, the emcee, whose real name is Aaron Williams, was shot multiple times as he was sitting in a Mercedes outside of St. John’s Place on April 11. Since the shooting, he had been receiving treatment at Kings County Hospital.

Williams was getting ready to sign a major deal and go on tour next month, according to one of his family members. “He was gonna bust big,” the relative said. “That was gonna be his debut. He was gonna destroy this place. He was working hard to make it.”

Racquel Peters, the 25-year-old’s mother, said he was pulling all-nighters in the studio in the days leading up to the shooting. “He had so much music. His first real onstage was July 5th, that’s when he was supposed to start,” she said.

She believes her son was shot because his career was starting to take off and people were envious. “It wasn’t anything… it really and truly was jealously. It wasn’t a gang-related issue, it wasn’t a drug-related issue,” Peters said. “Nobody knows how hard I worked to make sure my kids are OK. People don’t know the devastation they’re causing, and how many lives they’re destroying when they take somebody’s child.”

Williams’ single “Yellow Bentley” was recently featured on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio show. The Source Magazine previously described the up-and-coming emcee, who has been compared to Pop Smoke, as “the star that Flatbush was waiting for.”

When he wasn’t focused on music, he worked as a union ironworker. He also wanted to start a transportation business with his mom, but the pandemic interfered with those plans.

Police have made no arrests and do not have a motive for the shooting. The REVOLT team would like to send our thoughts and prayers to Williams’ family and friends. Rest in peace.
