Details for the official memorial services in honor of DMX have been announced. Per a statement on DMX’s Instagram account, a Celebration of Life memorial service will be held to honor the late rap legend this Saturday (April 24) at 4 p.m. EST. The service will reportedly be held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and will be live-streamed on DMX’s YouTube channel.
A second event, DMX’s Homegoing Celebration, will be held on Sunday (April 25) at 2:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on BET and on BET’s YouTube channel. Only the rapper’s family members and close friends will be allowed to attend either service, in observance of New York’s COVID-19 restrictions.
“Fans are invited to watch the event by tuning in to DMX’s YouTube channel,” the statement read.
“Attendance to both the Celebration of Life memorial and the Home-going Celebration will be restricted to close friends and family solely due to health and safety guidelines,” it added. “New York State currently limits indoor arenas to 10 [percent] capacity. New York State COVID-19 testing guidelines and protocols will be followed.”
DMX tragically passed away earlier this month after suffering a heart attack. The 50-year-old artist spent seven days on life support at New York’s White Plains Hospital while his fans, friends and family prayed for his recovery. Sadly, the beloved rapper was taken off life support and died on April 9.
Fans and former collaborators flooded social media with tribute messages and fond memories of X in the days after his passing.
Appearing on USA Today, Snoop Dogg said DMX “was always pushing the right thing. And he was always trying to help other people, and that leads me to believe that’s why God chose this angel to come back home with him.
“He did his time out here. He did what he was supposed to do,” Snoop added. “He influenced, he inspired and he represented. So, DMX, his soul will live on and his music will live on, as well. We thank you, brother, for what you brought to us.”
