DMX may have passed away, but the emcee will forever live on through his loved ones. On Monday (April 19), days before X’s public memorial at the Barclays Center, his fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, shared a beautiful yet hilarious video of one of their more personal moments as a couple: their engagement.
In a video shared on her Instagram story, DMX’s bright and infectious personality beamed as he spoke at a family gathering and joked about the status of his relationship with Lindstrom.
“We were supposed to be getting married, but earlier today, we broke up…so we basically not together anymore,” he said in the video.
Then, X got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. He and Lindstrom kissed and hugged as their family and friends applauded in excitement. When someone in the crowd said she didn’t Lindstrom’s answer to X’s proposal, she said “yes” a few times, this time loud enough for everyone else to hear.
Lindstrom remained by X’s side as he attempted to recover from a heart attack in the ICU department of the White Plains hospital. After a week-long fight, he succumbed to his injuries, and his family revealed the news, asking for some privacy as they mourned his loss. Fans and peers honored her fiancé with loving tributes in the first few days following his death, but over the weekend, she finally gained the courage to share her own touching message.
“The first night we met and you held me close. I knew I would never let go,” Lindstrom wrote. “I was lost in you and nothing else mattered. My best friend, my baby, my love…truly my everything. Thank you for us. Thank you for Exodus. Thank you God for Earl Simmons…forever X.”
Lindstrom also honored her man with a tattoo of a big “X” and the words “Dog Love” written above it.
