With Drake’s new “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” out, fans are reminiscing on the many hits the 6 God and Rick Ross have delivered together in the past. The six-minute track arrived on Friday (March 5) as one of the three songs on Drake’s new Scary Hours 2 EP. The packet also includes “What’s Next,” which arrived with a video, and “Wants and Needs” featuring Lil Baby.
On Twitter, fans highlighted “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” as an early standout track.
“When Ross and Drake on a track together, they don’t miss,” one fan tweeted.
Drake and Rozay have collided on multiple hits over the years, such as 2019’s “Gold Roses” and “Money in the Grave,” Take Care’s “Lord Knows,” “Aston Martin Music,” “I’m On One,” “Stay Schemin,” “Free Spirit,” “Diced Pineapples,” 2013’s “Pop That” and “No New Friends,” “Made Men” and more.
Fans also pointed to the song’s stripped-down beat, which was co-produced by Austin Powerz, FnZ, Keanu Beats and Boi-1da and samples Quadron’s 2010 song, “Pressure.”
“Whoever flipped that sample on ‘Lemon Pepper Freestyle’ is COLD BLOODED,” one fan remarked. “This shit is so ill.”
Scary Hours 2 serves as a follow-up to 2018’s Scary Hours, which housed hits like “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity.” The three-pack also arrives as a sampler ahead of Drake’s next album, Certified Lover Boy. According to DJ Akademiks, the rap mainstay called “What’s Next” just a “warm-up ting” before his full-length effort.
Certified Lover Boy was initially slated to drop in January, but Akademiks said Drizzy is now eyeing an April release date.
“Drake told me that it’s gonna be dropping before April. So, he’s not waiting until summer to drop his shit… April or before,” Akademiks said last month.
“He spent so much time on this project,” he added. “He’s not trying to put out a surprise project. He’s gonna let people know at least a week before.”
