The Los Angeles Police Department has launched a criminal investigation into the death of Bobby Brown Jr., who passed away in November due to a deadly combination of alcohol, cocaine and fentanyl. Speaking with TMZ, Bobby Jr.’s parents — music icon Bobby Brown and Kim Ward — said they called for the investigation due to the nature of their son’s death.
“Bobby was not into drugs. Bobby was easily influenced,” Kim told the outlet. “This is a situation where he associated himself with the wrong people. My son is gone and those who contributed to his senseless death should be held accountable.”
Bobby Sr. added, “This epidemic is out of control and those supplying this lethal drug should be held responsible for the death and destruction that it causes.”
Los Angeles detectives told TMZ they began investigating Bobby Jr.’s death as a possible criminal probe right away due to the narcotics that were involved, particularly Percocet and cocaine. Police said that street drugs are often cut with fentanyl without the user’s knowledge, which could have been the case in Bobby Jr.’s passing.
The case has since been transferred to the L.A. County D.A.’s Office, which will determine whether criminal charges can be filed or if the police need to continue their investigation. After his death, detectives interviewed Bobby Jr.’s girlfriend and other witnesses who were the last to see him alive. Authorities also said they found no drugs or drug paraphernalia at his home, where he died.
Tragically, Bobby Jr. is the second child that Bobby Sr. has lost. His daughter, Bobbi Kristina, was found in a bathtub with “toxic levels of cocaine and alcohol in her system” in 2015 and passed away at the age of 22 years old. Her mother, the late Whitney Houston, also drowned in a bathtub after an accidental overdose just three years prior.
