Everyone now and then, social media platforms, much like any site or app, experience a glitch that affects the many users accustomed to using it. On Friday (March 19), Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook appeared to be down, and social media users were more than distressed about the setback.
At 1:30 P.M. ET/10:30 A.M. PT, around the time the glitch reportedly started, users immediately took to Twitter to figure out whether they were the only ones experiencing some issues with their accounts, particularly the ones on Instagram. “Y’all Instagram buggin or is it only mine?” tweeted Justin Laboy of REVOLT’s “Respectfully Justin” show.
Another user wrote, “So IG engineers took vacation today?”
Regular Twitter users were split: Some weren’t welcoming. “Everybody and they momma wanna run to Twitter because y’all Instagram down,” wrote one person. “Like don’t do that, bye Felicia.”
Others were okay with the influx of Instagram users, who came onto the platform with amusing jokes about their frustrations with the app.
In one funny tweet, someone posted the popular meme of Future looking down at his cell phone. “WhatsApp and Instagram went down today, but I know if I ever went down, you’d always be there to catch me, you always had my back, and my buddy will always be up for you,” the tweet read. “Tell your mom I said hi.”
A few people laughed at the fact that Twitter was the place people came to determine whether their phones or the actual app was the problem, and others flooded timelines with memes of expressing their desire for Instagram to work again.
A Facebook spokesperson has since addressed the setback. “Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing some Facebook services,” she said. “We resolved this issue for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
