The original cast of The Best Man is getting back together to bring the hit film franchise to a streaming service.
According to Deadline, Peacock ordered a 10-episode limited series called “The Best Man: Final Chapters.” Malcolm D. Lee, the movies’ director and writer, is teaming up with former “Insecure” executive producer Dayna Lynne North to bring the series to life.
The star-studded cast from The Best Man and The Best Man Holiday is set to return, including Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Harold Perrineau, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Nia Long and Taye Diggs. Monica Calhoun is the only cast member that will be missing from the series because her character passed away from cancer in the film’s sequel.
“Here we go! The band is back together! I am very excited to bring these iconic characters back to the fans who have supported us through this franchise,” said Lee. “We are thrilled to deliver everything one would expect from this group of friends in The Best Man universe and take them through their final chapters. We can’t wait! I told you it wouldn’t be 14 more years.”
The series will focus on the relationships and friendships between Robyn, Harper, Jordan, Quentin, Lance, Shelby, Candace, and Murch. “The Best Man: Final Chapters” is set to begin filming in September.
The Best Man was originally released in 1999 and followed a group of old college friends who reunited for a wedding. The film’s Christmas-themed sequel, which was released in 2013, followed the same group of friends as they reunited for the holidays.
“We’re excited to reunite this beloved cast for a limited series run of The Best Man for Peacock,” said Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Content for NBCUniversal’s Television and Streaming division. “With a powerhouse duo like Malcolm and Dayna at the helm, fans will fall in love with our favorite group of friends all over again.”
