Megan Thee Stallion surprised one lucky Houston frontline worker after hearing her touching story about wanting to save lives during the pandemic.
The “Cry Baby” emcee made a virtual appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to help surprise Jamelmenique Hoy, a frontline nurse and mother of five, with $50,000 to pay towards her student loans.
The Hoy family had relocated to Houston from Mississippi back in July after Jamelmenique volunteered to help treat Coronavirus patients. Jamelmenique, her husband Michael and their five children — Micah, Mason, Messiah, Malachi and Michael Jr. — have been staying in a one-bedroom hotel room for the past few months.
DeGeneres told the family that she had a surprise for them. Megan popped up on the call and shocked everyone. She explained how she wanted to be a nurse, but switched her major to health administration.
“You have a beautiful family!” the Good News rapper said. “What you’re doing — you’re super inspiring. I thought that I wanted to be a nurse at one point in time, but that is really hard and I feel like we just need to give you all the praise, because girl you are putting on for us — just Black women in general. Just thank you so much for everything that you’re doing.”
DeGeneres told Jamelmenique to answer a “room service” delivery at the door. In addition to the donation from Shutterfly, the family was also given some sweet treats. “They want to pay off your student loans, so lift that cover [off the tray],” the host said. “They want to give you $50,000.”
“Oh my gosh, thank you so much!” said the emotional and “honored” nurse. DeGeneres thanked her for her work and also thanked Megan for joining in on the surprise.
