The 2021 nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are in. The list was unveiled on Wednesday morning (Feb. 10) and includes JAY-Z, LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner, Carole King, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, the Go-Go’s, Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, Devo, Chaka Khan, Fela Kuti, New York Dolls and Todd Rundgren. Nominees with the most votes will be announced in May and inducted this fall.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of JAY-Z’s debut album, Reasonable Doubt, making him eligible for his first-ever Rock & Roll Hall nomination. Rolling Stone reports that this is LL Cool J’s sixth time being nominated and the third time for Chaka Khan. If Carol King and Tina Turner are inducted, the outlet adds, they’ll mark the second and third women ever to receive the honor twice.

After announcing the nominees, the Hall of Fame said that this year’s group is the most racially diverse cast of artists since 1996.

“This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates,” Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes said in a statement. “These nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”

Along with the announcement, fans are also now able to vote for their favorite nominees on rockhall.com. However, the website writes that an “overwhelming fan response” crashed the system this morning and promised to have the voting feature “back up and running as soon as we can.”

Last year, The Notorious B.I.G., Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, T-Rex and the Doobie Brothers were inducted into the 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class in a virtual ceremony. The event was initially slated to take place at the Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio, but was postponed several months and changed to a remote format due to the pandemic.
