Meek Mill believes his life story should be told in a series, and he’s looking for a director who can help bring his idea to fruition. On Thursday evening (Nov. 3) the “Going Bad” MC put out a request for an individual who has skills behind the camera. “Looking for a fire director to cook my series about my life!” he tweeted. ”They don’t have to have the biggest name either, just the sauce!”
Meek’s storied career includes his start as a battle rapper, the rise and fall of his relationship with Nicki Minaj, and of course, his publicized battles with the legal system.
The Championships lyricist spent most of his adult life on probation related to a 2008 gun and possession charge he acquired after he was caught with a firearm while on his way to the store. In 2017, he was sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating parole but was granted an early release months later. After pleading guilty to a misdemeanor gun possession charge in 2019, all other charges related to the decade-long case were dropped, ending his back-and-forth with the legal system. He’s since worked alongside the REFORM Alliance as he advocates for criminal justice reform.
The mental scars Meek endured during his childhood in Philadelphia and as an established emcee in the music industry are discussed in his new album, Expensive Pain.
“In the hood, I had ‘poverty pain’ … when I turned to the streets, I’m 15, 16 years old, not knowing what I’m going to eat at night, not knowing what you’re going to wear tomorrow because we left the house. Your mom at work or dad dead,” he explained to the Philadelphia Inquirer last month. “This pain I’m getting now, it’s like I’m losing family members because I ain’t letting people borrow money.”
