Nearly 20 months after DJ Paul and Krayzie Bone took to their respective Instagram accounts to announce the Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony and Three 6 Mafia Verzuz, the event appears to finally be coming to fruition.
On Friday (Nov. 12), the official Verzuz account tweeted: “IT’S THAT TIME. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony vs Three 6 Mafia LIVE from Los Angeles!!” The matchup between the legendary groups is scheduled for Dec. 2 and more details will be disclosed closer to the event.
In addition to the announcement being made via the Verzuz Twitter account, Verzuz co-founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland shared the flyer on their Instagram accounts, as did Bone-Thugs and Three 6 Mafia.
While the original Verzuz between the iconic hip hop collectives was initially planned to take place April 30, 2020 on DJ Paul’s IG Live, the rescheduled show will now be performed live at an unannounced venue in LA and streamed on Triller and the Verzuz IG.
As REVOLT previously reported, DJ Paul and Krayzie Bone were planning to do an independent Verzuz-like battle on Paul’s Instagram Live before Timbo and Swizz stepped in to stop the event.
Their impromptu matchup was a result of Paul fearing a Verzuz between the groups not happening at all. “I was talking to [Verzuz] and they kept telling me they was gonna do it, man,” Paul told HotNewHipHop. “Then, they just ended up changin’ they mind. It’s like, I don’t know why they came in just to stop our thing and then didn’t wanna do it. But whatever, I still got love for Swizz [Beatz] and Timbaland. Love you guys to death.”
At the time, Paul claimed that Krayzie Bone backed out after someone close to Swizz Beatz dissuaded the Bone Thugs rapper from participating. However, Krayzie Bone claimed, in a statement via Twitter, he was not interested in participating because of the “temperature of what was going on in the world.”
Since the initial announcement, there’s been over 20 Verzuz battles, including epic matchups between The Lox and The Diplomats, John Legend and Alicia Keys, Jeezy vs. Gucci, and DMX vs. Snoop Dogg. The format has also changed for the head-to-head music series as COVID-19 restrictions have loosened across the country.
