Fans hoping to see Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel perform their hits may be disappointed to hear plans have changed. The Fugees aren’t ready to hit the road just yet. On Friday (Oct. 29), the iconic trio released a statement, via their official Instagram account, announcing their highly-anticipated tour has been pushed back to maximize attendance.
“Dates for our upcoming Fugees 25th Anniversary Tour are moving to early 2022 to ensure the best chance that all cities on the tour are fully open so we can perform for as many fans as possible,” the group said. “With so much excitement around the reunion tour, we are also happy to announce that we will be adding more cities and dates! Full details coming soon along with some SPECIAL announcements.”
The 12-city tour — which was supposed to commemorate the group’s seminal album The Score — was supposed to begin Thursday (Nov. 5) in Chicago before making stops in Oakland, L.A., Atlanta, Miami, Newark, New Jersey, and Washington D.C. The international leg was slated to start in Paris the first week of December and end in Ghana midway through the month.
As REVOLT previously reported, the Fugees announced their reunion tour in September. They performed together one day later at the Roof at Pier 17 in New York as part of Global Citizen Live. Before the event, Hill said in a statement, “The Fugees have a complex but impactful history. I wasn’t even aware the 25th anniversary had arrived until someone brought it to my attention. I decided to honor this significant project, its anniversary, and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved, and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”
“As I celebrate 25 years with the Fugees, my first memory was that we vowed, from the gate, we would not just do music we would be a movement,” Wyclef added. “We would be a voice for the unheard, and in these challenging times, I am grateful once again, that God has brought us together.”
REVOLT will continue to track updates to this story and share the rescheduled tour dates when they are announced. In the meantime, watch the Fugees Global Citizen Live performance below:
