Demonstrators who held a rally in Times Square last Saturday (Oct. 16) to protest New York City’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate will hold an assembly in support of Kyrie Irving, who has been vocal about not receiving the vaccine.

John Matland, one of the organizers of “Broadway Rally for Freedom,” told Fox News that he believes several thousand people will attend the march, which will begin at Commodore Battery Park and move to the Barclays Center prior to the opening game for the Brooklyn Nets. Matland defined the campaign as a “widely diverse group” joined under the “goal of stopping what they regard as an infringement on their personal liberties,” according to the outlet.

As REVOLT previously reported, Irving was banned from practicing or playing with the Nets until he became vaccinated. Nets’ General Manager Sean Marks said the star guard’s refusal to be vaccinated against COVID-19 has limited “his ability to be a full-time member of the team” adding, that “we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.”

Following the ban, Irving took to Instagram Live to speak about why he has decided against receiving the shot.

“I’m staying grounded in what I believe in,” he said during the 20-minute Live. “It’s not about being anti-vaxx or about being on one side or the other. It’s about being true to what feels good for me. I’m still uncertain about a lot of things and that’s ok. If I’m going to be demonized about having more questions and taking my time to make a decision with my life, then that’s just what it is.”

Several celebrities have spoken up in support of the Nets players, including NLE Choppa and Chris Brown. The “Go Crazy” singer called the NBA player “the real hero” and said his decision to remain unvaccinated was a “damn good one.”
