Black Panther fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the franchise’s highly anticipated sequel. According to Variety and other outlets, Disney has delayed the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as well as a slew of other Marvel titles. According to the outlet, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now set to air on Nov. 11, 2022; as opposed to its initial July release date.

Along with the Danai Gurira-starring film, the release dates for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, The Marvels and more have also been postponed. It appears the delays were caused by multiple factors. For one, Variety writes, filming for Black Panther is still ongoing. Production for the film began in Atlanta this past June and has since hit a few snags.

Letitia Wright, who is set to reprise her starring role as Shuri, was injured and had to be hospitalized after filming a stunt for the movie. However, Deadline reported the actress received medical care at a nearby hospital and was discharged shortly after.

Furthermore, 95-year-old Dorothy Steel, who played a tribal elder in the first Black Panther, sadly passed away at her home last week. The actress reflected on her role in Black Panther during her 2018 appearance on “Steve Harvey.” At the time, Steel said she was originally hesitant to act in a “comic strip at my age,” but that her grandson encouraged her to audition for the film.

According to Variety, since Marvel has become an “interconnected and meticulously planned universe,” the delay of one franchise can also have a “domino effect” on other films. Disney movies that are still slated for release this year will reportedly play in theaters for 45 days before moving to streaming platforms. The company has not yet announced how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and other 2022 titles, will be released.
