Eminem has long been open and honest about his struggles with substance abuse. In a recent interview, he revealed that his drug addiction temporarily affected his rapping abilities.

Years ago, as the Music To Be Murdered By emcee was recording songs for his Relapse album, he lost some of his lyrical prowess and was simply rhyming words in attempt to get his skills back.

“You know, a lot of times, especially with the Relapse record, when I first started learning how to rap again, because of the drug situation that I went through and having to relearn a lot of things, that was one of those things that it was like, ‘Well, if it rhyme, say it,’” Slim Shady told SiriusXM’s Gray Rizzy.

Amid the many songs he put together was the leaked verse about Rihanna and her domestic violence incident, which he claims he has “zero recollection” of recording. “Like the rhyme schemes didn’t even sound like familiar to me. So I was caught off guard too. I was like, ‘What the fuck, I said that?’” he recalled. “I’m not making excuses for it. I said it, and I was wrong for saying that. It was fucking stupid.”

Eminem also admitted the verse was a mistake in “Zeus,” a single off his recently released Music To Be Murdered By: Side B.

“But me, long as I re-promise to be honest/And wholeheartedly, apologies Rihanna,” he rapped on the song. “Or that song that leaked/I’m sorry Rih wasn’t meant to cause you grief/Regardless, it was wrong of me.”

“Zeus” also sees Em addressing Snoop who said he can live without the Detroit’s music career during a recent “The Breakfast Club” interview. “As far as squashing beef, I’m used to people knocking me/But just not in my camp,” Eminem rapped. “And diplomatic as I’m tryin’ to be/Last thing I need is Snoop doggin’ me/Man, Dogg, you was like a damn god to me/Meh, not really (haha)/I had dog backwards.”

“Pray I don’t answer that soft ass shit ,” Snoop later reacted.
