Police say they arrested Trey Songz at the Kansas City Chiefs game on Sunday (Jan. 24) because he wasn’t wearing a mask, but a new video shows that the Back Home singer only removed his mask to eat. According to TMZ, which published the footage, Songz pulled his face mask down temporarily to eat some fries. The outlet notes that while masks are required inside the Arrowhead Stadium, fans are allowed to take them off to eat and drink.

After eating, Songz was visited by three stadium security guards and around 10 to 15 minutes later a Kansas City police officer arrived. Authorities claim they apprehended Songz because he had his mask down, but in both videos other fans can be seen not wearing masks with no intervention from police.

As reported by REVOLT, the incident led to Songz being tackled by police and restrained in his seat. The Virginia-born star got into a brief altercation with one of the officers and was handcuffed. In a clip of the altercation, fans could be heard yelling, “Get off him!” and, “Arrest the cops!” as police pinned Songz down to the bleachers.

Songz was booked on a 24-hour hold and was released from jail on Monday morning (Jan. 25). TMZ previously reported that the 36-year-old had been charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and felony assault of a police officer; however, police said in a statement that no charges had been filed.

“During last night’s AFC Championship games, fans complained that a man was not following the Arrowhead fans’ code of conduct or the mandates of the Kansas City Missouri Health Department,” the Kansas City Police Department said. “The man was not receptive and refused to comply with Arrowhead security. Security then asked him to leave. He refused to leave.”

The department added, “At that point, they requested law enforcement assistance in ejecting him from the stadium. Officers advised the man that if he did not leave, he would be arrested for trespassing. He still refused to comply, at which point officers told him he was under arrest.”

The case has since been turned over to the Jackson County Prosecutor for further review. Songz hasn’t released a statement about the incident except for an Instagram post that read, “Chiefs game was lit right?!”
