The alleged theft of Nancy Pelosi’s laptop will no longer remain in police custody. On Thursday (Jan. 21), U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin Carlson ruled that Riley June Williams will be released from jail.

Williams was arrested after an ex-boyfriend tipped law enforcement about her appearance in a video of the insurrection and revealed her plan to sell the device to Russian intelligence.

Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, confirmed that a missing laptop was removed from a conference room and used only for presentations. The FBI later discovered footage of Williams arriving and departing Pelosi’s office. The agent’s affidavit revealed a cellphone video that shows the rioter saying, “They got the laptop,” and messages showed her bragging about the stolen items.

“I STOLE SHIT FROM NANCY POLESI [sic],” she wrote. “I DONT [sic] CARE. I TOOK NANCY POLESIS [sic] HARD DRIVES I DON’T CARE KILL ME.”

Still, Lori Ulrich, Williams’ defense lawyer, maintains the accusations made against his client are “overstated.”

Williams was released on house arrest. She faces charges of theft, obstruction, trespassing and violent entry and disorderly conduct for her involvement in the Capitol Hill siege, and is slated to appear in a Washington court on Monday (Jan. 25).

“The gravity of these offenses is great,” Carlson told Williams. “It cannot be overstated.”

Williams joined Jacob Chansley, Dominic Pezzola and a throng of people that forcibly entered the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 in hopes to get Donald Trump a second presidential term. Though she was released from jail, many of her fellow rioters hoped the former president would return the favor and grant them clemency on his last day in office.

Unfortunately, their wishes were not met. Trump, did however, pardon rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black and over 100 other people before he left The White House to make room for President Joe Biden.
