Michelle Obama’s hair stylist has been inundated with appointment requests following the inauguration on Wednesday (Jan. 20). Yene Damtew was responsible for the curls and voluminous look the former first lady donned to the ceremony, which was just a fraction of her entire stunning ensemble.
Obama stole the show from the time she and her husband, Barack, arrived to support their friend Joe Biden as he swore into office. Some fans were impressed by her burgundy Sergio Hudson number, while others raved about her hair.
“I found my joy. It was Michelle Obama’s hair,” journalist Jemele Hill wrote on Twitter. “COME THROUGH CURLS AND VOLUME.”
“Hair, LAID. Waist, CINCHED. Fit, BIG DRIP,” added another user. “My forever first lady did not come to play.”
Quite naturally, fans desiring to have their hair done like Obama discovered Damtew’s salon and made appointment requests. Unfortunately, however, the hair stylist won’t be able to help everyone who comes her way.
“My team and I have received literally hundreds of DMs and emails about hairstyling services at Aesthetics Salon,” Damtew wrote along with instructions on how to book an appointment. “You may not be able to get an appointment in my chair however, my team is INCREDIBLE and would love to serve you.”
“I am so grateful for all the love, mentions, tags and memes,” she continued. “You all have brought me so much joy today. I’m truly humbled.”
Obama’s appearance at the inauguration comes after months of lending her support to Biden and Kamala Harris’ campaign. Prior to the ceremony, she said she was “genuinely hopeful what’s to come.”
“They’re (Biden and Harris) determined to make life better for all Americans,” she wrote on Instagram. “I know they will bring us back the stability that has been sorely lacking through what has been a devastating pandemic.”
