Nearly two decades since Kanye West emerged on the scene as a producer for Roc-A-Fella records, the entrepreneur has been named the “highest paid male celebrity in the world.”
The Forbes list was announced on Wednesday (Sept. 2), with the rapper coming in at No. 2 right after his sister-in-law Kylie Jenner. West reportedly brought in $170 million this year, mainly secured from the earnings from his Yeezys sneakers deal with Adidas.
West also has a Yeezy apparel line and makes money from his music. After revealing his partnership with GAP, it is likely the rapper will make even more in the coming year.
West took to Twitter after learning of his latest accomplishment, tweeting, “This is a good start” alongside a screenshot of the article.
Earlier this year, Forbes confirmed West was officially a billionaire after leaving him out of their 2019 billionaires list.
During a recent interview with Nick Cannon, he talked about feeling slighted when he learned the magazine hadn’t included him among the many other billionaires that year.
“I was snubbed by a magazine, but I was recognized by God,” West told Cannon. “I feel like Forbes kept snubbing me because they wanted to say, ‘We can’t show you a person being successful that didn’t do it the exact way that we told you you need to do it in order to be successful.’”
Despite his financial success, West is also making headway in his run to become the next president of the United States. As of now, he will successfully appear on ballots in Idaho, Minnesota, Tennessee, Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma and Vermont.
Among his many views as a presidential candidate, he’s been vocal about his anti-abortion stance, which he also discussed in his conversation with Cannon.
“The accomplishment was to have that [recognition from Forbes] and still be sensitive enough to cry at the thought of aborting my daughter,” he said.
