Back in August, Burna Boy revealed that Diddy would act as executive producer for his fifth studio album, Twice As Tall. The 15-track offering arrived last month, complete with a variety of features from Naughty By Nature, Stormzy, Chris Martin, Sauti Sol and Youssou N’Dour.

As he continues to promote the new record, Burna Boy sat down with Douglas Jekan for the Nigeria-based PGM Club. During the interview, the Grammy-nominated artist said he hoped partnering with Diddy would “build a solid bridge” between himself and other audiences and revealed that the REVOLT Media & TV chairman executive produced Twice As Tall for no charge.

“I wanted this [album] to build a stronger bridge between, basically, all people of color,” Burna said around the 15-minute mark. “… The album was already about 80 percent done before I got Diddy involved. Getting Diddy involved — first of all — me and Diddy are now one bridge. Then, it’s like a tree; it just keeps going.”

Burna explained that with Diddy’s help, he was able to connect with certain producers and collaborators — including Naughty By Nature and Timbaland — for the project.

“That’s the bridge… and it goes far beyond that… because — guess what — Diddy didn’t take no money from me,” he continued. “He gets two points royalties, which he gives back to me, so I can take care of some other sh*t.”

Burna’s last album — African Giant — earned him his first-ever Grammys nomination for Best World Music Album.

“The only thing that’s changed is now everybody sees what’s been going on,” he said. “I’ve been this person. If I win a Grammy for this album, it’s because it’s a great album — just like the last one.”

Previously speaking with The New York Times, Diddy called Burna “a revolutionary.”

“The thing that I learned about him is the importance of what he’s doing for his nation and representing the people that aren’t really heard globally,” said the rap mogul. “Through this album, I think it’s important for Africa to be heard. And so it’s bigger than just an album.”
