New music from Pop Smoke is on the way.
On Friday (July 17), the late Brooklyn rapper’s team revealed a July 20 release date for the deluxe version to Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon. In a teaser shared by Rap Caviar, clips were included of Pop Smoke’s last moments onstage before his untimely death in February.
Steven Victor, Pop’s former manager, shared a screenshot of his phone call with 50 Cent, who served as an executive producer on the rapper’s posthumous debut album. “Tell @50cent to approve the video and the mix for the deluxe, the 20th is 5 days away,” he wrote in reference to the upcoming visual for “The Woo,” which is slated to drop the same day as the LP. In a since deleted post, Fif revealed that he was waiting on vocals from Gucci Mane, who is set to appear on the effort. “The deluxe is coming stop rushing,” he wrote. “… Gwuapo🤷🏽♂️where TF is the verse.😠I will leave your ass off the project let’s work get it done.”
Last week, REVOLT confirmed that the “Mood Swings” rhymer earned his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his debut effort. The achievement placed Pop amongst the likes of Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G. and XXXTentacion, who all secured No. 1 posthumous album releases.
Earlier this month, news broke that three adult males – Corey Walker, Keandre D. Rodgers and Jaquan Murphy – were arrested for the murder of the rapper. In addition to that, two juvenile male suspects were also apprehended as well. At the moment, the three adult suspects are being held on $1 million bails. “LAPD Detectives have arrested three adult males & two juvenile males related to the Feb 19th murder of Bashar Jackson, a New York based rapper known as Pop Smoke,” the police department wrote in a statement, which was posted on Twitter. “We will provide further details as they become available.”
