Pop Smoke has posthumously earned his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon. The achievement places the late rapper in prestigious ranks, joining Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G. and XXXTentacion as the only four rappers with No. 1 posthumous album debuts.

According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon garnered 251,000 equivalent album units, marking the sixth-biggest sales week for an album this year. The project also rallied in the fourth-largest streaming week in 2020, earning over 268.44 million streams.

As his debut studio album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon follow’s Pop’s two mixtapes — Meet the Woo, Vol. 1, which landed at No. 105 on the Billboard 200 and Meet the Woo, Vol. 2, which peaked at No. 7.

The posthumous achievement arrives a few days after five people were arrested in connection with his death. The Brooklyn upstart was tragically gunned down back in February in what appeared to be a home invasion.

Three adult males — Corey Walker, Keandre D. Rodgers and Jaquan Murphy — were arrested in his murder investigation on Thursday (July 9) along with two juvenile male suspects. The Los Angeles Police Department booked Walker, Rodgers and the two juvenile suspects for murder and Murphy for attempted murder. All three adult suspects are being held on $1 million bails.

“LAPD Detectives have arrested three adult males & two juvenile males related to the Feb 19th murder of Bashar Jackson, a New York based rapper known as Pop Smoke,” the police department confirmed in a tweet last week. “We will provide further details as they become available.”
