Calling all who want to buy Black! Today (June 19), Official Black Wall Street made a special announcement regarding Black entrepreneurship. From Juneteenth to July 19, the company wants to highlight Black-owned businesses from a number of different fields — from restaurants, toiletries, etc. — for you to learn about and support.
Official Black Wall Street’s website reads, “We are challenging you to familiarize yourself with Black-owned businesses and #BuyBlack all year ’round… starting with 30 days. Our hope is that these businesses will gain the exposure AND sales they deserve, and that you’ll become lifetime consumers of Black-owned businesses. And it continues with our ‘Juneteenth Buy Black Challenge.’”
The founder of Official Black Wall Street, Mandy Bowman, said about this new initiative:
“Our biggest goal with this challenge is to continue the momentum. In the past few weeks there has been a tremendous outpour of support for Black-owned businesses. In recent years we’ve seen similar peaks in the buy black movement after incidents of police brutality that unfortunately subside after a few weeks. We are challenging people all around the country to patronize Black businesses and, most importantly, make buying black a lifestyle change.”
Participating in the campaign is pretty simple. Black brand owners just need to sign up for an OBWS listing, if they aren’t already in it. From there, entrepreneurs can make “an ‘OBWS’ discount code for at least 10% off using. Post at any point during the challenge and tag @OfficialBlackWallStreet. To ensure they are reposted across the @OfficialBlackWallStreet platforms,” a press release states.
For people who want to check out any companies to offer their financial support, they can simply “search the OBWS directory or download the Official Black Wall Street app to find black-owned businesses to shop.”
