DMX only has his eyes set on a Verzuz battle against JAY-Z.
Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that X would potentially go head-to-head against Eminem, but yesterday (May 19), N.O.R.E. posted a video on Instagram of X talking on the phone with Swizz Beatz about battling Hov.
“[Eminem] don’t want it,” the It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot rapper said in the video. “I rather go against my arch-nemesis.”
Swizz then mentioned how the 4:44 MC didn’t want to come out to battle.
“He don’t gotta come outside nigga it’s in the house,” X replied. “He can’t go in the basement and play some records?… That’s what I’m saying. That’s why it should be done. It’s a celebration. We’re celebrating music. He got some hits too. He can play ‘Money, Cash, Hoes,’ then I can play ‘Money, Cash, Hoes,’” he said, referencing their 1998 collaboration.
N.O.R.E. insisted that there’s no bad blood between the two rappers. “Sent this to Hov and he said DMX will never be his nemesis,” he captioned the video. “He’s his brother and I respect that salute them both. I LOVE HIP HOP!!!”
Earlier this month, DMX made a virtual appearance on the “Drink Champs” podcast and said that he was down to battle JAY for a third time.
The two MCs have quite the history. Before their rise to fame, JAY and X met up in the Bronx to battle. Footage of the battle was taken, but there was only video of Hov’s verses.
During the “Hard Knock Life Tour” in 1999, the two were able to battle once again. Fans were able to see footage of this in the 2000 documentary, Backstage.
Their relationship started to dissolve over the years, but in 2016, they settled their differences and were seen together backstage at Beyoncé’s “Formation World Tour” in New Jersey.
