Hundreds of thousands of hip hop fans around the world were tuned into Nelly and Ludacris’ Verzuz battle on Saturday (May 16) evening to see the two legends duke it out with their classic hits. However, things didn’t go as planned in the beginning when Nelly’s wifi was getting negatively impacted by the rainy weather in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. So, being the true generous king that he is, Luda decided to debut a brand new song that he has with Lil Wayne, which Timbaland just so happened to produce.
At first, the Atlanta artist was hesitant because he didn’t know if he was even allowed to play the track. However, once Timbo gave the thumbs up — or prayer emojis — Luda pressed play and viewers of the IG Live were here for it. On the song, the rapper was in his conscious bag, as he dropped bars about real-life issues such as Bill Cosby’s drug and rape allegations, R. Kelly, Colin Kaepernick and so much more.
“The world crazy, n**gas pouring drinks like Cliff Huxtable/ I love R. Kelly, but around my daughters, I am not comfortable,” Luda said during the unreleased track. “Racist people still drinking whatever’s in Rosanne’s bar,” he also said at another point.
Did we mention that he also played this song multiple times? He wanted to make sure he got his messaging across. Needless to say, social media was all ears when they heard the lyrics.
After that, Luda also premiered a second track with Chance The Rapper. Check out a snippet of that song below.
Thankfully, after Ludacris played these two never-before-heard records, Nelly was able to come back on the Instagram Live and the battling festivities continued.
Tell us. What do you think of the new songs Luda debuted? Also, who do you think will win the Verzuz showdown tonight?
