Although social media is still in a flurry following Drake’s recently unveiled Dark Lane Demo Tapes, the 6 God isn’t stopping there. After announcing his new mixtape and sharing a summer release plan for his next album, Drizzy hopped on Night Owl Sound’s Instagram Live Thursday night (April 30) to preview some new tunes, which will presumedly land on his upcoming LP.
Among the previewed tracks was a snippet of Drake rapping in French and a collaboration with Roddy Ricch. Verzuz viewers will remember that Drake and Ricch’s song was first played by Boi-1da, during the producer’s Instagram Live battle with Hit-Boy.
Although details surrounding Drake’s forthcoming sixth studio album are still scarce, fans can expect the project to arrive this summer.
“My brothers [Oliver El-Khatib] and [OVO Noel] put together alot of the songs people have been asking for (some leaks and some joints from SoundCloud and some new vibes),” he announced on Instagram ahead of his mixtape’s release. “DARK LANE DEMO TAPES out everywhere at midnight…also my 6th STUDIO ALBUM DROPPING SUMMER 2020!!! Lucky number 6… soon fwd.”
In terms of the upcoming album’s length, Drizzy previously revealed the project will be shorter than 2018’s Scorpion.
“Last album, I went high volume. I did two sides. It was like 20-something songs, which is a lot of songs,” he told a TSN sports commentator at a Toronto Raptors game back in February. “This album I’ll probably make it more of a realistic offering. Something more concise. It could be 10, 11 songs, [or] 16.”
Speaking with Diddy on Instagram Live, Drake also said that social distancing has allowed him to fully focus on the upcoming project.
“Definitely, this is the most excited I’ve been about an album in a long time,” he said. “A lot of little stuff has been trickling out, but all the stuff on the album is fresh, it’s brand new and I’m excited. This is probably the most music I’ve ever been sitting on. I’m hyped.”
