Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé will be getting their own respective days in their hometown of Houston, according to Mayor Sylvester Turner.
“#Htown’s @Beyonce & @theestallion dropped a new remix that is just #Savage,” Turner tweeted. “Because of both artists contributions to uplifting our communities, holding down #HTown, & for helping us remain #HoustonStrong our city will present both artists with their own respective days.”
“It’s great to see proceeds from the single’s purchase will support Bread of Life,” he continued in a second tweet. “Let’s purchase & support this organization’s efforts. I look forward to connecting with both artists teams to find the appropriate time to make these requests a reality. #HoustonStrong.”
Yesterday (April 29), Megan dropped the “Savage (Remix)” and shut social media down. The song currently sits at No. 1 on Apple Music and all proceeds for the track will benefit Houston’s Bread of Life’s COVID-19 relief efforts.
After the song’s widespread success, the “Captain Hook” rapper took to Instagram to share her excitement for working with one of her idols and how much of a fan Beyoncé was to her late mother.
“It’s really crazy cause like, my mama was like a really huge fan of like Beyoncé and she used to make me watch a lot of Beyoncé stuff,” she said. “And it’s like, when I met her I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ And I ain’t wanna be like, ‘Oh my God Beyoncé me and my mama love you.’”
She continued, “This shit is crazy — And it’s just like, for Beyoncé to even do a song with me — I really only been out for like two years. This is the beginning of year number two. Like, Beyoncé? It’s really crazy.”
