A Whitney Houston biopic titled I Wanna Dance With Somebody is currently in development from The Photograph director Stella Meghie.
The late singer’s estate, Clive Davis, Anthony McCarten and Primary Wave will produce the film. McCarten will also write the script. With the support of the estate, the movie will be able to utilize Houston’s music catalog.
According to Deadline, the film will be a “joyous, emotional and heartbreaking celebration of the life and music of the greatest female R&B pop vocalist of all time, tracking her journey from obscurity to musical superstardom. While being very frank about the price that super-stardom exacted, it will be both the rich and complex saga of the search for the perfect marriage between song and singer and audience, and at the same time the moving tale of a simple Jersey girl trying to find her way back home.”
“An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour” kicked off in Sheffield, England in February. The concert included some of Houston’s biggest hits like “I Will Always Love You” and “How Will I Know.” It also included a rendition of Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love” that she recorded years ago.
“Now is just the right time,” said Pat Houston. “In the spirit of Whitney, I know we’re doing all the right things right now.”
Houston is known as one of the best singers of all time. She sold more than 200 million records worldwide and won six Grammy awards. Her self-titled debut album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with hits like “Saving All My Love For You” and “Greatest Love Of All.”
She sadly passed away on February 11, 2012 after she accidentally drowned in her hotel bathtub. She was only 48.
Who do you think should play Whitney Houston in the film?
