YG is joining the long list of celebrities who have given back to their communities during COVID-19.
According to TMZ, the rapper’s nonprofit organization 4Hundred Waze gave $10,000 worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) to families in Emergency Crisis Housing in Los Angeles. The care packages contained gloves, masks, sanitizer, detergent, smart tablets, socks, board games, water, undergarments, under shirts, diapers, bottles and toys. The My Krazy Life rapper and his organization helped over 100 families.
“Nothing prepares you for a situation like this. Rather than sit by and wait for updates on how people in underserved circumstances are going to be assisted, we took the initiative to listen to the needs of families and provide all the necessary items to help them through quarantine while still practicing social distance,” YG and his business partner Sheron Barber tell TMZ.
Earlier this year, YG’s 4Hunnid label inked a joint venture deal with Epic Records.
“Me and my team have been doing innovative, legendary stuff for years—helping keep the West Coast alive,” YG said in a statement to Variety. “Now, Epic comes through at the best possible time with a platform for our expansion. I’m proud of this opportunity and will make the most of it.”
Under the new joint venture, Epic will handle all distribution, release, and marketing of all music released under 4Hunnid. The first release is set to be from Compton female rapper Day Sulan, who was featured on YG’s 2019 single, “Her Story.”
“We at Epic are delighted by this joint venture with YG and his forward-thinking 4Hunnid brand,” says Sylvia Rhone, Epic chairwoman and CEO. “YG perfectly represents the new face of hip hop music: versatile, creative, multifaceted, and steeped in history but versed in current trends. This marks an exciting addition to our roster and offerings.”
Shoutout to YG for giving back to his community.
