Pusha T has announced that he and Jadakiss have removed their new single “Hunting Season” from streaming platforms while everyone continues to mourn the recent death of Pop Smoke.
In an Instagram post Pusha wrote, “‘Hunting Season’ was a request that IcePick Jay (RIP) always had and in light of his death me and Kiss made an incredible song.”
He continued, “With that being said, the whole concept of hunting season and the hypothetical ideas of ‘killing rappers’ isn’t [sitting] well with me while mourning the recent death of Popsmoke. Rest In Peace POP and condolences to his family.”
In the caption of the post Pusha wrote, “All love and utmost respect to @jadakiss and the memory of my good friend @icepicjay again RIP @realpopsmoke and condolences to the family…”
Many celebrities praised Pusha’s decision to remove the song. Bun B wrote “grown man shit” in the comments while Karen Civil shared a prayer hand emoji under the post.
“Hunting Season” was released today (Feb. 21), just one week ahead of Jadakiss’ Ignatius album release. So far, there’s no word on when the single will be re-released.
Pop Smoke was gunned down on Wednesday (Feb. 19) in his Hollywood Hills home. While Pop’s murder is still under investigation, authorities believes he was targeted.
According to surveillance footage, four suspects wearing masks approaching Pop’s home. Three of the four men, which authorities have described as wearing hoodies and masks, reportedly returned to the home’s front door. The fourth suspect does not appear again on video until he’s seen exiting from the front door, which suggests he broke into the home from a back entrance.
Multiple shots were fired inside the home, but only Pop was hit. The suspects were not seen carrying any items out of the house, which refutes initial reports that this was a robbery. No arrests have been made.
