Teyana Taylor invites fans behind the scenes for her intimate making-of documentary, Assembly Required: Teyana Taylor’s House of Petunia. Premiered on Thursday (Feb. 20) by Red Bull, the hour-long film reveals the painstaking creative and collaborative process that led up to Taylor’s iconic performance at last year’s Red Bull Music Festival New York.
“I’m starting my own house. It’s gonna be called House of Petunia,” Taylor says of her performance during the film. “It’s all my visions brought to life. The House of Petunia will be my most ambitious show to date. I’m extremely nervous because the show means a lot to me.”
According to a press release, Taylor gives fans a front-seat look at the “hours of tireless training, meltdowns and more” that brought her dazzling House of Petunia show to life. The film also sees her working with her team, which includes her mother and manager Nikki Taylor, husband Iman Shumpert, band director Carrington and lead choreographer Coco Gilbert. Usher, Fabolous and Method Man are also featured in the documentary.
Besides her jaw-dropping performance, Taylor also gets candid about navigating through the male-dominated music industry, her tireless work ethic and balancing motherhood, marriage and her thriving career.
Assembly Required: Teyana Taylor’s House of Petunia also marks the premiere of Red Bull’s new Assembly Required film series. The documentaries will pull back the curtain on what it takes to create an iconic performance, following game-changing artists as they bring their visions to life.
A woman of many talents, last year saw Taylor release several one-off singles, including “We Got Love,” “Gimme Love,” and “How You Want It?” featuring King Combs. Back in November, the New York-bred multi-talent teamed up with Kehlani for a seductive “Morning” visual and directed a mini web-series called “Hottieween” starring Megan Thee Stallion.
