Everyone will be in Chicago this weekend for the All-Star Game and events.
Chaka Khan is set to perform the National Anthem at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game this Sunday (Feb. 16).
The 10-time Grammy Award winning singer announced the news on Twitter. She tweeted, “SINGING U.S. NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE 2020 NBA ALL-STAR GAME 🎙️ @NBAAllStar @NBA 🏀#NBAALLSTAR #NBAALLSTAR2020 #CHICAGO #CHAKAKHAN #NATIONALANTHEM.”
The All-Star game is coming with some heavy hitters this year for the halftime performance.
Weeks ago, it was announced that Chicago-native, Chance The Rapper, would headline the halftime show. Today (Feb. 13), new acts have been added to the halftime show. Lil Wayne, Quavo and DJ Khaled have been added on to the NBA All-Star Game halftime show.
Chicago native Common will deliver remarks about what basketball means to the city of Chicago before he introduces the All-Star rosters before the game
The league also announced that Jennifer Hudson will perform a special opening tribute dedicated to the late Kobe and Gianna Bryant.
The league has many tributes planned for Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant. One of the tributes will be that Team Giannis will wear No. 24 on their jerseys to honor Kobe while Team LeBron will wear the No. 2 jerseys to pay homage to Gianna.
The format of the All-Star Game will change this year and the league will pay tribute to Kobe with the final score.
Every quarter will be into a mini game. The final quarter will be untimed with a target score that will decide which team wins. The scores will be reset to 0 at the start of the second and third quarters, then reinstated at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
The team that wins the All-Star game will be the team that reaches a target score, which consists of their combined score during the first three quarters, plus 24 points. Bryant wore the no. 24 during the second half of his basketball career.
The 69th NBA All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The game will air live at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBA on TNT.
