A documentary about Kool G Rap’s career and long-lasting influence is reportedly in the works. Toronto-based production company Reel Wolf Productions announced the upcoming film in a Facebook post on Friday (Feb. 7).
“Over the course of the last year, I have been promoting a ‘Top Secret’ project that I have been working on. At the time I wasn’t ready to announce it, but now that my film Priceless is officially completed — today I am ready to make the announcement,” the post reads. “I will be directing the FIRST EVER, never-before seen or told official documentary about Kool G Rap.”
The 51-year-old Queens native is best known as one half of the Kool G Rap & DJ Polo duo and member of the Juice Crew, which included Marley Marl, Mr. Magic, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie and Roxanne Shante. His street lyricism and hard-hitting content is credited to paving the way for emcees in New York and beyond, including Nas, JAY-Z, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G., N.O.R.E., Fat Joe, Big Pun and more.
“Kool G is one of the most iconic emcees of all time. He is been the biggest influence on most of the greatest rappers in history including Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, Big Pun, Eminem and many more,” the Facebook post continues. “This movie will tell his story like no other, and document his life and career.”
The upcoming film, which is set to air next year, will include exclusive interviews with the likes of Alicia Keys, Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, fellow Juice Crew member Big Daddy Kane, Onyx, Smif-N-Wessun and more.
“This will be my first feature film and also my first documentary film,” the post concludes. “I am excited to keep building on this project and by 2021 we will make history.”
In the past, the production company has directed videos for Mobb Deep, Tech N9ne, Jedi Mind Tricks and more. The upcoming Kool G Rap biopic will mark the company’s first film and documentary ever.
