J. Cole has plenty of new music in store. The rap star finally gave fans a glimpse at what he’s been working on in a mysterious Instagram post Tuesday night (Dec. 29). The snapshot featured Cole’s handwritten plans for the “The Fall Off Era” — a nod toward his long-teased and highly anticipated album, The Fall Off.
According to his post, though, fans can expect a few other releases before The Fall Off arrives. The North Carolina native revealed that the release of his The Off-Season mixtape is next up on the list, followed by something called “It’s A Boy,” which could either be the name of a new project or indicate an addition to Cole’s growing family.
“I still got some goals I gotta check off for’ I scram…” he wrote on Instagram.
The checklist also notes that “Features” and Revenge of the Dreamers III have been completed — the latter of which dropped to Grammys acclaim last year.
The Fall Off shows up as the last item on Cole’s posted note. On Twitter, fans worried that the rapper may retire after releasing the LP. In a recent essay for The Players’ Tribune, Cole mentioned the possibility of “hanging up [his] jersey.”
“… A long term plan of becoming the best rapper I could possibly be before hanging up my jersey, leaving nothing on the table when all was said and done. The seeds for The Fall Off were planted…” he wrote in the essay. “The fire that was once dying out has returned, and for that I’m grateful. On my career bucket list, there remain a few more items to check off before I give myself permission to enter whatever the next chapter of my life may be.”
After rampant release date rumors and speculation, Cole’s new post is the first word fans have received about The Fall Off in months. See his post below.
