T.I. is giving back to Atlanta families in need. The “What You Know” emcee donated more than 1,000 turkeys to hundreds of families on Tuesday (Nov. 24) during his 15th annual giveaway. Harris Community Works, his family foundation, put on the event which they say served “families and seniors in need.”
“These families have come to rely on this Turkey drive every year to make their Thanksgiving meals possible,” read a press release. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the giveaway was switched to a drive-thru event so everyone could safely receive the food without a high risk of contracting the virus.
T.I. and his wife, Tiny Harris, helped load the turkeys into cars at the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in West Atlanta. Additionally, pre-selected families also received produce and greens.
Tip isn’t the only celebrity who gave back before the holiday. Last weekend, French Montana distributed over 500 turkeys in The Bronx. The Excuse My French emcee teamed up with members of City Harvest to hand out the food to families in need.
Tyler Perry also hosted a food giveaway that benefited thousands of families in Atlanta and surrounding areas. On Thursday (Nov. 19), the Tyler Perry Studios Twitter account announced they would distribute food and gift cards on Nov. 22 to 5,000 families in need.
“We are excited to announce the #TPSGiving Food Giveaway event on Sunday, November 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.,” a tweet from the studio read. “During this drive-up event, we will be distributing non-perishable food items and gift cards to people who are in need during this holiday season. See you there!”
The event ended at 10 a.m. once they ran out of all of the food in only two hours. Cars were reportedly lined up for miles down the street.
