Juicy J has been campaigning for a spot on Verzuz pretty much since the series began, and has now set his sights on fellow mega-producer — Pharrell Williams. Juicy named The Neptunes hitmaker as his ideal opponent during a recent appearance on 97.9’s “The Box.”
“I got such a long [catalog]… I could easily kill somebody in a Verzuz battle,” the Three 6 Mafia MC declared. “I could pull up that old Three 6 and pull up my new catalog and smash you with my middle catalog. I mean, there’s three decades of music… I think you can you can only play 20 records. I got so many hits.”
J added, “You know what, I’ma tell you something. A match-up: me and Pharrell. He a artist, I’m a artist; he a producer and I’m a producer.”
Juicy has yet to hear back from Pharrell about the battle, but this isn’t the first mash-up he’s suggested. Over the summer, the “Bandz A Make Her Dance” rapper set his sights on a Verzuz dual with Dr. Dre.
“I wanna do a Verzus battle wit Dr Dre no cappuccino,” he announced at the time on Twitter. “I produced a lot of songs check my catalog shits long mane I’m greatful to still do what I love to do.”
Although Juicy’s appearance on Verzuz is still up in the air, the radio host mentioned rumors that the next battle will be between Lil Wayne and T.I. Tip was initially set to go up against Jeezy. However, the “Put On” rapper ultimately decided to battle it out with his arch nemesis Gucci Mane, leading to the most-viewed Verzuz of all time.
According to series co-founders — Swizz Beatz and Timbaland — the virtual event attracted 9.1 million viewers, which put Verzuz’s popularity ahead of some of music’s biggest awards shows, like the MTV Video Music Awards, Billboard Awards and Latin Grammys.
